Seattle at home plenty down the stretch

By Bud L. Ellis

Four out of six is the key for the Seattle Seahawks in 2010. Four out of six games after the bye are away from home, followed by four out of six at home at Qwest Field.

The National Football League has released game dates and times for 2010. Seattle will play four times in six weeks away from home from Oct. 17-Nov. 21, then will finish the slate with home games in four of its final six games at home from Nov. 28-Jan. 2.

The schedule begins with a home game Sept. 12 at home against San Francisco. After a trip to Denver to open the road portion of the schedule in week 2, San Diego comes to town in week 3 and the Seahawks head to St. Louis in week 4.

The Seahawks then get their bye week Oct. 10. Four of the next six are away from home, starting with a visit to Chicago. After a home game with the Cardinals, Seattle heads to Oakland, welcomes in the New York Giants, then plays consecutive road games at Arizona and to Super Bowl champion New Orleans.

But starting with a home date Nov. 28 with the Chiefs, the Seahawks close with four of their final six at home. After K.C., the Seahawks welcome in Carolina, head to San Francisco, play host to Atlanta, travel to Tampa Bay and face the Rams at home to end the season.

Tough home schedule awaiting Seahawks

By Bud L. Ellis

Pete Carroll is back in the National Football League after an ultra-successful run at Southern California. If he’s going to guide the Seattle Seahawks into the NFL playoffs, he’ll have to hope his team can navigate through a tough home schedule.

The Seahawks will see plenty of good teams come calling at home this season. Of Seattle’s eight home games, six are against teams that finished last season at 8-8 or better.

The NFL has released every team’s list of home games and road games for the upcoming season. Times and dates will be determined later this spring.

Seattle will play host to NFC West rival Arizona, the defending division champion, and AFC West champion San Diego. Those are the only two home games against playoff teams, but the Seahawks play three teams that went 8-8 last season (San Francisco, Carolina, Denver), as well as Atlanta (9-7 a year ago). The other two home games are against St. Louis and Kansas City.

On the road, the Seahawks’ slate is much lighter. There is a trip to Super Bowl champion New Orleans and a game at Arizona. The rest of the schedule includes games at San Francisco, at St. Louis, at Tampa Bay, at Chicago, at Denver and at Oakland.

The Seahawks’ schedule is tied with the Chargers for 29th out of 32 teams in the NFL, based on last season’s winning percentage.
